Fu-Nori

-Funori es alga marina seca 100% natural. Es una especie de alga marina tipo roja, Gloiopeltis furcata. Proviene de la área costanera del Japón.

Usualmente, Funori es muy estable. Sin embargo, a veces pequeños puntos blancos pueden surgir en la superficie del Funori, esto aparenta ser Funori insoluble o partes insolubles del alga.

Antes de aplicar Funori, por favor siga instrucciones;

• Ponga el Funori en una olla.
• Añada el agua(de 5-10% en proporción al volumen: ej. 5-10g funi=ori y 90 cc de agua)
• Cocine el Funori a fuego bajo, para homogenizar la mezcla de pega. Puede seguir el mismo método que utiliza para hacer soluciones con pegas naturales(ej. cola de conejo, pega de piel de vaca, etc.)
-el Funori nunca se va a disolver completamente en el agua caliente.
• Filtre la solución de pega de Funori usando una tela o filtro de café para remover cualquier residuo de funori insoluble.

La densidad del pegamento depende de su aplicación. Usualmente y para trabajo en papel, la solucion queda bastante fluida.

Oil Varnish
-This is 3/4" plywood, sanded and treated, bought from the local hardware store. It has been varnished with two coats of Linseed oil containing drying agents to speed up drying time.

A collective of art, a commentary, a piece, an idea and a concept. A collaboration of perception.

Miguelito's Friendly Kitchen project is a collaboration of professionals at work. A medium for those people who consider themselves an artist and those who consider no such thing. It is an ideal place for thinkers and active citizens.

Collaborators:
In this case, the friendly cooking is between a 4th grade school teacher and a painter, both from Puerto Rico. They collaborate on this project by photographing garbage, plastic, waste specifically found in Puerto Rico’s coastal areas.

The sole purpose of this new project is to bring attention to the ever rising problem of plastic waste in our Oceans.

Our top selected artist will be awarded the Grand Prize: A feature spot at SCOPE Miami 2010 alongside the top players in the international art world, $10,000 total cash (includes a $5,000 cash grant to produce new work and a $5,000 cash prize).

[Artist Statement] [11/2005]

The content of these works is rooted in a longing for one's own identity. It is a vomit of digested and undigested experiences contained inside the soul. My art is what I call "the process," and it consists of three steps;

1. Observe/Analyze
2. React/Intake
3. Create/Regurgitate

These act as guides to take me through a process where making decisions becomes "gut responsive". That which moves my intention is contained in my body. In such a way my work becomes a quick response to a paused intellectual process. As I find the first motive on the surface, I then proceed to respond to it with a color, a shape or a line, considering the space of the composition.

The different paints and materials are chosen mostly by their intrinsic beauty in form and color. I prefer to create the best material with the right color, rather than to rely on found materials. My intention is to portray the relation of colors that inhabit my memory, and those forms that relate to objects I observe and influence my life. Symbols are integrated almost by chance and act also as guides for my own mental process since the imagery is mostly improvised.

These symbols come from different interest; they reference history and culture of both Puerto Rico and New York City. The harmony or dis-harmony of materials is a key element in my work. I create a piece using traditional fine art painting mediums, like oil paint, and juxtapose them with non-traditional materials like "magic markers", which are usually associated with illustration and advertising. My intention is to comment on the nature of my society where I am and where I come from. This work is a reconstruction of identity, ideals, doubts and superstition.

Because of the non-menclature of certain societies, people are forced to live estranged from Nature. For some, the concept of the World as a whole seems far.

I reinterpret my life through line, form and color using a specific set of basic natural guides.

-Take Grafitti off the wall and put it out on the street, as intrusive objects right next to people.

-Representing a three-dimensional "tag" or "throw" using wood, glue and paint. All around the city I placed these pieces in different public places for a short amount of time and photograph the reactions.
